Smitha Vilasagar, MD, is a minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon who is passionate about providing excellent surgical treatment for patients suffering from complex gynecologic conditions, specifically endometriosis. Dr. Vilasagar completed her OB/GYN residency in 2014 and went on to complete a 2-year subspecialty fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and chronic pelvic pain at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY in 2016. She then moved to Charlotte, NC where she has built her surgical practice at Atrium Health.
In her first few years of practice, Dr. V recognized the huge gap in care for patients suffering from endometriosis. She has witnessed how patients with endometriosis have been overlooked or dismissed for years, and unfortunately suffer from its downstream detrimental effects on quality of life, like chronic pelvic pain and infertility. She has devoted her practice to performing laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery involving full excision/removal of this highly inflammatory disease to effectively treat this condition with incredible and positive outcomes for thousands of patients.
Dr. V has not only remained steadfast about providing compassionate care to these patients suffering from endometriosis, but also focuses on educating about this disease and advocating for her patients in efforts to change the landscape and dialogue surrounding this debilitating disease. She has also cultivated a recovery protocol involving multiple methods to provide the shortest and most comfortable recovery for her patients, to help get them back to their lives as quickly as possible.
